Water as a Data Challenge

Data science challenge discussed in this section for water challenges are primarily but perhaps not exclusively in context of climate as a stressor. The spectrum of water challenges in the resources, hazards and nexus, operate at multiple space and time scales, and across disparate planning horizons, over which scientific insights, projections, as well as policy insights, need to be generated (Figure 9.1).

The four time horizons to be considered are the following:

(1)Near-real time to weeks

(2)Seasonal to inter-annual

(3)Decadal to mid-century

(4)Multi-decadal to century and beyond.
